The fifth generation showed an emergence of 3D gaming, as well as Sony's start into the video game market after having Nintendo reject their idea for collaboration on a disk-based game system. The popular Final Fantasy series jumped ship to Sony over Nintendo's insistence on the smaller but faster cartridge storage, and after the release of Final Fantasy VII, the rest is history.
