"You must play Sega Saturn!"[1]

The Japanese list

edit

Note: certain titles require an Extended RAM Cartridge.

Cover Title Genre Description Translation Screenshot
Akumajo Dracula X - Gekka no Yasoukyoku 2D Platformer A.K.A. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Worse than the PlayStation version in some ways (longer load time, dither transparencies, more slowdown), but it has extras such as the new areas the Underground Garden and the Cursed Prison (which becomes the Hell Garden and Soul Prison in the Reverse Castle) new bosses, enemies, and items. Plus you get to fight Maria as a boss in that weird room at the center of the castle. The more cartoonish artstyle for the new content really clashes with the rest of the game, but it's balanced out with the awesome Maria mode. It should be noted that this isn't the Maria from the later Dracula X Chronicles port, this is a completely different playable version of her which is hilariously broken and overpowered.

(Protip: Save to external RAM cart to avoid slowdown).

Arcade Gears: Gun Frontier Shoot 'em up Game that inspired Battle Garegga and Ibara. Very stylish shmup that is set in the futuristic version of old west. Some people complain that this port is easier than arcade original which has brutal difficulty.
Arcade Gears: Image Fight & X-Multiply Shoot 'em up An arcade perfect compilation of two classic Irem shooters, with Image Fight being a vertical shmup where you can directly control your ship's speed and collect options, and X-Multiply being an R-Type inspired horizontal shmup where you use your ship's tentacle arms to block bullets and is packed to the alien gills with body horror. As these are Irem games be prepared for the both to be visually gorgeous, brutally difficult and featuring restart checkpoints on death.

Also available on PlayStation.

Arcade Gears: Pu-Li-Ru-La Beat'em Up/Acid Trip Evil creatures have stolen the key that keeps time running in a magical land, and it's up to two children to beat the shit out of them. Solid conversion of a fun arcade that is sure to make you go "WTF?" all the time. Also on PlayStation.

Arcana Strikes Card Game A pretty interesting card game with minor RPG/Strategy elements. The game is light on story and focuses primarily around the concept of traveling to different realms challenging different enemies while collecting cards to utilize in battle. Link
Assault Suit Leynos 2 Platformer / Action NEEDS A BETTER DESCRIPTION
Part of the Assault Suit series, that includes Cybernator (SNES) and Target Earth (Mega Drive).

Astra Superstars Fighting Airborne-based fighting game uses a clean and simple designs that seem right out of a children's book.

At the beginning of each battle, the player must converse with the opponent by selecting one of three sentences. Depending on which sentence is selected, the CPU-controlled opponent will either "Heat Up" (become hard), "Cool Down" (become easy) or stay neutral before fighting (no difficulty change).

Asuka 120% Burning Fest. Limited Fighting A G-rated, all girls fighting game that is surprisingly fun. Think of it as Killer Instinct but with school girls. Great visuals, simple 3-button controls and fast pacing make this a hidden gem in the Saturn fighting library. Also worth noting that this was the final release in the series that was made by the original developers.
Baroque Rouglike A cult classic post-apocalypse, horror, industrial, rogue-like. One of the most intriguing games ever made.

While at first your tasks seems to be just reaching the bottom floor of the mysterious Neuro Tower, every time you die you start the run from the beginning but the characters change their dialogues, revealing better technique for survival and story elements.

The original version also available on the PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. A remake/reimaging was released, in english, on the PS2 and Wii in 2007-08.

Link
Battle Garegga Shoot 'em up Excellent port of the arcade game, includes tate mode and the option to change the bullets from the realistic ones to fire shots.
Batsugun Shoot 'em up A crazy shoot 'em up with bullets EVERYWHERE. You gain EXP to boost your main gun and shoot so many bullets that it practically takes up the whole screen. Is considered to be the first bullet hell game.
Blast Wind Shoot 'em up A pretty cool arcade vertical shooter, from the makers of Thunder Force. Link
Black/Matrix SRPG It seems like the minions of hell have won the war against the angels and they rewrite history and make up there own rules where love is punishable. Are you gonna take that!? It's a fairly fun SRPG, like Final Fantasy Tactics. Also, the beginning and ending of the game are decided for you as soon as you pick your black-winged master.
Blue Seed Card Game Based on the manga and anime series, this game's battle system combines RPG elements, cards and full-motion videos.

Recommended for fans of the series and for those who wants to enjoy RPGs with unique battle systems.

Bulk Slash Third person shooter Ride a transforming mech/jet and fight the rebellion that's causing a civil war on your planet. Often compared to Virtual-On but it's really different (and better), with large 3D levels and multiple objectives to complete. Also, it has a light touch of dating sim. The English fan translation is fully dubbed, and even adds support to the Twin-Stick controller.

Cotton 2: Magical Night Dreams Cute 'em up Control a hot-headed, candy-obsessed loli witch in a side-scrolling shoot 'em up. That's pretty much all you need to know about this game. Link
Cotton Boomerang: Magical Night Dreams Cute 'em up Control a hot-headed, candy-obsessed loli witch in a - wait a second. So, this is a remixed version of Cotton 2. More details here.
Culdcept Card Game The first game in the Culdcept series, the gameplay is basically Monopoly meets Magic the Gathering.

The PS2 game titled "Culdcept" is actually the sequel "Culdcept 2", itself an expanded port of the Dreamcast title.

The game was ported to the PlayStation titled Culdcept Expansion and Nintendo DS, which the latter has a fan translation if you want to check that out.

Cyber Doll RPG In 1999, humanity has been plagued by a terrible disease that puts humanity on the course of extinction. Ordered by the US president, human body parts are replaced by artificial ones to resist the disease. However, man has become immortal. Four decades later, in 2039, the futuristic megalopolis Zero City is threatened by mutant members of a mysterious organization, who call themselves "Dark Visitor". You, the hero of the game, join the combat unit Debugger, and are assigned to a mission of locating and exterminating the Dark Visitor. Your personal motive is revenge: your family was killed by monsters when you were a child.

You fight randomly appearing enemies in turn-based combat, that is viewed from a platform perspective. You have separate hit points for your body parts, and so do your enemies. You have a wide variety of weapons, including small guns that can target one body part of the enemy, and machine guns that cause damage to the entire body. Targeting body parts adds to combat strategy: for example, if the HP of enemy legs is depleted, he won't be able to move and to attack you in close range.

Daytona USA: Circuit Edition Racing Doo Do-Do Doo Do-Do Do-Do Do-Dooooo. DAAAYYY-TOOONAAAA!! Remember that? Awesome arcade racing game, also on the PC, Dreamcast, and PSN/XBL. Probably one of the best arcade racers for its time, maybe even today. The original release was a rushed affair and pretty underwhelming compared to Ridge Racer. It was remade using the Sega Rally engine and named the CCE edition, adding new levels and cars and even music! The Japanese Circuit Edition is the definite port on the system, as it re-adds the original arcade music, refined controls, has 3D controller support, and different lighting corresponding to different times of day.
Dead or Alive Fighting Tecmo got into the 3D fighting game with a gimmick: pretty girls and jiggly boobas. Other than that, it's like a faster Virtua Fighter with a reversal system. The PlayStation version (which came to the west) has some tweaks and a lot of unlockables, but the Saturn version is usually considered prettier and closer to the original arcade.
Death Crimson Lightgun, kusoge The legend itself. "Recommended" only in the sense that this game is so genuinely awful it has to be seen to be believed. The game so bad it has the title of "Emperor Kusoge" (Emperor Shit-Game) in Japan. The game so bad that the developers were sent death threats on the game's registration cards. Because of its genuinely abysmal quality, incompetent execution, terrible value for it's price and overall aura of nonsensical surrealness it's gained a cult status in Japan.

Has two sequels on Dreamcast, Death Crimson 2 which intermixed classic Resident Evil style sections with the lightgun shooting sections, and Death Crimson OX which re-uses assets from Death Crimson 2 but is a pure light gun game. These aren't anywhere near as well remembered because by then it seems developer Ecole was in on the joke. They later went on to work on the Melty Blood Series with French Bread. Huh.

Devil Summoner RPG Set in the city of Hirasaki in modern-day Japan, the story follows a college student whose death at the hands of demons forces his soul into the body of Summoner Kyouji Kuzunoha. Now in Kuzunoha's body, the protagonist must investigate the appearance of demons in the town and the activities of Sid Davis, the Dark Summoner responsible for killing the protagonist and Kuzunoha.

Also on the PSP with extra content.

Devil Summoner Soul Hackers RPG A Shin Megami Tensei game. Take control of a bunch of hax0rs called the Spookies and enter the virtual city Paradigm-X to fight against demons using demons of your own (on the internets of course) via GUMP (A computerized gun used for summoning demons). Like any SMT game you can gain loyalty over demons, install software, and fuse demons.

You may also want to check out the prequel, also on Saturn.

Ported to the Nintendo 3DS with an extra dungeon featuring Raidou Kuzunoha. Also has an English release unlike this version.

Digital Pinball: Necronomicon Pinball Sequel to Digital Pinball: Last Gladiators. A pinball simulator by KAZe featuring three tables with a dark/gothic theme. This is probably the single best pinball simulator ever made, with smooth silk graphics, spot-on ball physics, awesome music, and a creepy ass voice talking all the time!
Dodonpachi Shoot 'em up A fun crazy bullet hell (sort of) shooter. Improved over the first game as you gain awesome power-ups and such. If you want a challenge try getting all 13 golden bees without dying. GOOD LUCK!
HG101 article

Donpachi Shoot 'em up The first game by Cave, one of the several companies that rose from Toaplan's collapse. This is a great bullet hell, the spiritual sequel to Batsugun.
HG101 article

Dragon Force II: Kami Sarishi Daichi ni RTS The Sequel to Dragon Force. It keeps the core "choose a kingdom" structure but enhances the tactical combat significantly by allowing generals to command two different unit types simultaneously (like archers and cavalry), enabling much more flexible formation and strategy options. It also adds a new research laboratory system for generals, expands the available spells and unit classes, and generally refines the real-time battle engine to be faster and more dynamic than the original. Link
Dungeons & Dragons Collection Beat 'em up Welcome to the D&D world! Includes two fantastic Capcom brawlers: Tower of Doom and Shadow Over Mystara (the latter requires the 4MB expansion). Not arcade-perfect, but close enough. This was their only home conversion until Chronicles of Mystara in 2013.
Dungeon Master Nexus RPG Japan-only sequel to Dungeon Master, and without FTL Games' involvement. Link
Elevator Action Returns Action / Shooter Rad as fuck sequel to the classic TAITO arcade game, choose from 3 different characters each with their own individual stats and sub weapons and blow the shit out of terrorists and collect documents. Play the first level, SHIT GETS REAL.
Fire Pro Wrestling S: 6 Men Scramble Wrestling Incredible selection of wrestlers and shoot fighters makes the game interesting. There are multiple modes to beat your friend and the computer in, great create character mode.

Every type of wrestling style is included in this game, from lucha libre, to Japan Power-style, to Shoot fighting, to American-style, and every style is different.

Link
Genso Suikoden RPG Gather the 108 Stars of Destiny, populate your fort, and wage war against a tyrannical empire in the JRPG that began the revered series. Available in English for the PSOne and on PSN. Ported to the PSP along with its sequel, but it never saw an NA release.
Grandia RPG A light-hearted RPG about a young adventurer uncovering a lost civilization. The saturn version is the original. The PSX version is a port.

Also on the PlayStation in America and an HD remaster on Nintendo Switch and Steam, but the PSX version has a number of graphical issues, and the HD remaster is more of a mixed bag.

Link
Grandia: Digital Museum RPG Exclusive to the Saturn.

Has extra dungeons, battles and cool dev stuff. Seriously, if you can't get enough of Grandia you should play this one too.

Guardian Force Shoot 'em up A different shmup from Success (Cotton, Psyvariar). You control a futuristic tank, moving about freely and rotating your cannon independently.
Gungriffon II First Person Mech Shooter Sequel to Gungriffon, with significantly improved gameplay and whatnot. Link
Hyper Duel Shoot 'em up Another fine side-scrolling shmup from the creators of Thunder Force. Play as a transforming mech / jet fighter. Not only it is a perfect arcade port, it has a new mode with updated graphics.

Jung Rhythm Rhythm Pretty much PaRappa the Rapper at home, as the kool kidz say. Link
Konami Antiques: MSX Collection Ultra Pack Compilation If the Saturn is not retro enough for you, have this compilation of 30 Konami games from the even retro-er MSX computer. Yes, all 30 in one disc - unlike the PlayStation version that was split in 3 packs of 10 games each.
Full list here.

Langrisser III SRPG The sequel to Langrisser II, and the first 32-bit installment in the series.

Bundled with the other games as part of Langrisser Tribute.

Langrisser IV SRPG A distant sequel to Der Langrisser. No translation available for Saturn, but there is one for the PlayStation version.

Bundled with the other games as part of Langrisser Tribute.

Langrisser V: The End of Legend SRPG A direct sequel to IV. The final game in the series, until the 3DS game. Unfortunately, no translation available for Saturn or the PlayStation.

Bundled with the other games as part of Langrisser Tribute.

Layer Section II Shoot 'em up Port of the arcade game called Raystorm (which was then renamed to Layer Section II for this version only due to trademark problems). Vertical shmup with 3D graphics but played in typical 2D. Has a neat feature where you can lock onto background enemies and destroy them with lasers. Plays well and looks nice, but the screen can get cluttered with the explosion effects.
Linda³ Complete RPG “Psycho-thriller and hunting RPG” proves to be one of the strangest and most bizarre role-playing games on the Saturn, if not ever.

Also on the PlayStation version, but that one is censored, and the Saturn version isn't.

Linkle Liver Story Action-RPG A spiritual sequel to Crusader of Centy for the Mega Drive. It only took a couple of decades for a fan translation to come out!

(But WTF is that title? It seems to be a bad romanization of "Wrinkle River".)

Link
Lunar: Silver Star Story RPG Enhanced port of a Mega-CD game. Classic JRPG adventure with a lovable cast and vibrant setting. Excellent score and highly entertaining writing, well-localized for its time (though the team took some liberties). Developed by Game Arts, also behind the Grandia series, which has much of the same "kids on an adventure" vibe. Traditional, turn-based combat system with some limited tactics. Not a hardcore RPG, but one for fans of heartwarming stories. Also available as a MPEG edition that uses the MPEG card for higher quality FMVs.

Also on the PlayStation in English, albeit with missing graphics. Gameplay.

Link
Lunar 2: Eternal Blue RPG Enhanced port of a Mega-CD game. Distant sequel to Lunar, with a new core cast but similar story beats and writing. Turn-based combat also returns without major changes, though the game as a whole is harder. The tone is also more serious, though with lots of room for humor. Make sure to play the Epilogue after the credits! The series ends here, though there was a horrendous DS prequel (Dragon Song). Gameplay.

No translation available, but was released on the PlayStation in English.

  Mahō Gakuen Lunar!
(Magic School Lunar!)
RPG An enhanced remake of Lunar: Sanposuru Gakuen for the Sega Game Gear with updated graphics, newly added anime cutscenes, and a more complex story.

The game is about a tale of a young girl named Ellie and her best friend, Lena, as they leave their quiet lives as field workers in the town of Burg to enroll in a newly established magic school located on an island called Len. There, along with several other youths, the girls find the school and the area around it completely deserted, and try to establish order by getting all the students together within the surrounding town. During their stay, they encounter several magical creatures and monsters who also call the island home, all while they continue to search for their instructors.

(While the Saturn version is still not translated, the Game Gear one is.)

Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter Fighting From the people at Capcom and Marvel who brought you X-Men vs. Street Fighter comes Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter! Street Fightan and Spider Manan everywhere. Like before, probably better than the PlayStation version so this would be recommended.
Metal Black Shoot 'em Up Rumored to be a sequel to Darius II that got its own setting because it was too dark for its own good. Still a damn good game on its own, albeit, strongly unforgiving; for one, bombing drains all your power and you don't get anything more than that narrowish twin shot to pick off enemies that come from all directions. Special note: this game may also have one of the biggest mindfuck endings in any video game ever
Metal Slug Run 'n Gun Metal Slug on your Saturn. If you don't have a Neo Geo or the anthology why not? Requires the RAM expansion cart.
Nanatsu Kaze no Shima Monogatari Adventure A combat-free platform game presented as an interactive storybook with beautiful visuals and sprite work. Unfortunately it is very dialogue-dependent and there is no translation effort planned as of current.
Nekketsu Oyako Beat em up The scientist Saeko Hibino has been kidnapped by the dastardly Haraguro organization to build a doomsday device, and it's up to her pro-wrestling husband Rando, their fighting prodigy daughter Rio, and Saeko's assistant Toratarou “Tora” Minoru to fight their way through and rescue her.

Port of the PlayStation game but the soundtrack has been rearranged with slightly different instrumentation, with some tracks being played in a different key, and a couple of new pieces have been introduced. A few enemy palettes and backgrounds have been modified, some of the animation frames were added or redone, and certain effects have been tweaked to account for the Saturn's difficulty with transparency. A minor but meaningful touch is that grabbing food items when your health is full no longer gives you extra health, making things a bit tougher than on the PlayStation. The engine's been given a few tweaks that impact the combat: enemies are easier to juggle, moves can be cancelled out of, and the characters have been given a few more moves that require special inputs.

Night Striker S Rail Shooter A humble, yet nonetheless breathtaking rail shooter by Taito. Incredibly short even by arcade game standards but makes up for this with its incredible replay value; branching paths for those who want something different and a pacifist bonus for the dedicated. If that's not enough for you, this version of the port contains a special mode too.
  Ninpen Manmaru
(Manmaru The Ninja Penguin)
3D Platformer Who said the Saturn can't have 3D platformers?

Based on the manga series of the same name.

Link
Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen Tactical RPG Enhanced port of the SNES tactical classic by Quest, which would later develop Tactics Ogre and FFT. This version has five exclusive scenarios. Link
Pocket Fighter Fighting Chibi Capcom crossover fighing game. Has a neat little gem power up system. Also availble on PS2 as part of Street Fighter: Alpha Anthology.
Policenauts Adventure An astronaut turned private eye investigates the murder of his ex-wife, and the clues point at a conspiracy at the space colony. The spiritual sequel to Snatcher. Basically one of Trolljimas early works before Metal Gear Solid (not Metal Gear the original, that came way before). But a very good game nonetheless.

On the PlayStation as well, both versions now having fan translations. Saturn version is more complete, with extra scenes and characters, but the FMV quality suffers a (very slight) bit.

Link
Princess Crown Action-RPG You start as an ass-kicking princess who travels around her kingdom saving people from monsters; and as you progress, you can unlock more characters who have their own unique stories. Combat is brawler / platformer style, with a ring system a la Secret of Mana to do stuff like use items and cast abilities. Its lead dev later founded Vanillaware, so if you love Odin Sphere and Muramasa, you must play this. Also on PSP and PS4 (equally Japan-only). Link
Purikura Daisakusen Isometric Shooter Starring the highly popular character Clara from Power Instinct 2, as a magical princess from an even more magical land.
Rabbit Fighting From EA's Japanese branch comes this cutesy 4 button fighter. Features dodges, recovery rolls, ground hits, and hops, the animal spirirt is the real focus here. You gain your opponets animal spirit after you defeat them, and can use it in the next match which encourages the player to try them all. Link
Radiant Silvergun Shoot 'em up In the year 2520, a mysterious artifact is unearthed, but then it awakens and wipes mankind. The only survivors are the crew of a space cruiser, who have no choice but return to the surface to figure out WTF happened. A slow-paced yet very challenging vertical shmup with a shockingly dark story and amazing boss battles. Widely considered as one of the best games of the genre. Be attitude for gains!

Also on Xbox Live, Switch, and Steam in English.

Real Bout Fatal Fury Best Collection Fighting ARE YOU OK? BUSTA WOLF! Includes Real Bout Fatal Fury and Real Bout Fatal Fury Special.
Riglord Saga 2 Tactical RPG Japan-only sequel to Mystaria: The Realms of Lore / Blazing Heroes.
  Sakura Taisen
(Sakura Wars)
SRPG / Visual Novel It is the roaring steampunk of the 1920s, and all-female squads use magic-powered mechas to fight a demonic invasion. A very unique mix of tactical RPG, visual novel, and dating simulator, the first in a long-running series that's huge in Japan but mostly unknown elsewhere.

Also on Dreamcast and PC.

Link
Sakura Taisen 2: Thou Shalt Not Die
(Sakura Wars 2)
SRPG / Visual Novel The sequel to Sakura Wars.

Also on Dreamcast and PC.

Link
Saturn Bomberman Fight!! Maze, action Very unusual spin-off of the Bomberman series: it has an isometric 3D perspective, also you can jump and run, and you have a life bar. Never ported to any other system.

Segata Sanshirou Shinken Yuugi Minigame/ Being a Badass AWWWW YEAH! Segata Sanshiro in his very own game! If you like Segata (why even ask?) Buy this shit right now because Segata knows where you live. Ok not really but still its good.
Sengoku Blade Shoot 'em up Arcade port (aka Tengai), sequel to Sengoku Ace. If you're expecting standard Psikyo shooting, think again. This is one of their harder horizontal titles. Also, robo-samurai and delicious titty monster!
Senkutsu Katsuryu Taisen: Chaos Seed Action RPG / strategy You are a cave hermit trying to replenish the earth's lifeforce. But people misunderstand it and think you're causing things to go bad. So you get this unique a mix of management simulation with action RPG. If you can't read moonrunes, try the Super Famicom version as that has a fan translation.

Sexy Parodius Cute 'em up Just Parodius with a sexy setting. Hey, sex! something /v/ will never have (with a woman anyways) But I kid, I kid. Anyways it is a fun shooter made for fanservice purposes. And I suppose if macroism is your thing by the screenshot you might buy this for any amount.
Shienryu Shoot 'em up Humans and aliens wage war over a colony planet. A fun and traditional vertical shooter, and a perfect arcade port (as it was an ST-V game). The PlayStation port is technically inferior but it had an US release (renamed Gekioh Shooting King) with many extras, so you decide.
Shining Force III Scenario 2 SRPG The continuation of the first scenario, which was the only one to see a NA release, it's just as great. Link
Shining Force III Scenario 3 SRPG The end of Shining Force IIIs tale; again, fantastic for any fan of the Shining series or SRPGs in general. it's just as great. Link
Shining Force III Premium Disc SRPG, misc. If you got this far with Shining Force III, might as well throw this in. It's a bonus disc, sent to those who mailed in the spine cards for all the three scenarios. It contains an extra battle mode, and lets you view 3D models, music, videos, and concept art from the game's development.

  Shinrei Jusatsushi Taroumaru

(Psychic Killer Taromaru)

Platformer Be a psychic ninja for hire, stop a demonic invasion! This is like a mix of Shinobi and Mystic Defender. Nice gameplay, great visuals, and some very creepy enemies. Also, it's the last game by Time Warner Interactive, super rare so it costs a fortune.

Even the options screen is in moonrunes, so use this guide. Or just use an English patch and not have to worry about it.

Link
Shippuu Mahou Daisakusen: Kingdom Grand Prix Shoot 'em up / Racing Spin-off of the Sorcer Striker / Dimahoo arcade series, a mix of shoot 'em up and racing. Ported from an arcade game, includes an option to play it like a regular shmup as well as tate mode. Link
Silhouette Mirage Beat 'em up / Being a Badass You play as Shyna, who is able to switch between "Silhouette" and "Mirage" at will by facing either left or right on-screen. Secondary mechanics in the form of various melee moves are used to get enemies onto the correct side of the screen so that when Shyna is facing them, she is able to use the correct, opposing attribute to damage them.

Also available in English on the PlayStation. Be warned though: Working Designs made that version insanely difficult, so this version may be better for that reason alone. Also the Saturn's graphics are far better.

Link
Söldnerschild SRPG NEEDS A BETTER DESCRIPTION
Odd name. Good game.

Sōkyūgurentai Shoot 'em up Megacorporations wage war for the mineral resources of Mars. Perfect port of the arcade (aka Terra Diver), also on the PlayStation (a bit less perfect).
HG101 article

Solo Crisis Simulation A spiritual successor to Quintet's ActRaiser. While the ActRaiser games are a mixture between side-scrolling platforming and world-building, Solo Crisis focuses solely on the world-building aspect.
SteamGear Mash Platforming A fun little game about a toy saving his child owner from space robots.
Steam Hearts Shoot 'em up Amazing port of the PC-98 lewd shmup, now with 100% more mayhem and 100% less nudity!
Stellar Assault SS 3D shooter Upgraded port of Stellar Assault (aka Shadow Squadron) for the 32X. The fan translation even dubs all the voices. Link
Street Fighter Zero 3 Fighting aka Street Fighter Alpha 3. Same game as the PlayStation/Dreamcast, just on the Saturn. On par with the other ports of the time (aka damn good). Its just REALLY FUCKING EXPENSIVE, as it was released in the twilight of the Saturn in 1999. At this point, the DC was already released in Japan for almost a year and had its own SFZ3 port. Ingrid isn't in this version, fuckhead.

Also available for the PlayStation, DC, PS2, GBA, PSP, Xbone, PS4, Switch, PC

Suiko Enbu Fuun Saiki Fighting Very good Data East fightan based on the Water Margin novel. Fuun Saiki is more of a "Champion Edition" of the original, which brings the bug fixes from Dark Legend, as well as including Mizoguchi and Yungmie from Fighters History as guest characters.
Super Tempo 2D Platforming Japanese-only sequel to Tempo for the 32X, the game offers 2D platforming sections, as well as musical themed rhythm sections. Players take control of the character Tempo, who can create bubbles to defeat enemies. Musical notes are collected throughout the stages, and if enough are found, they can be exchanged in an arcade to play mini-games.
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together Tactical RPG Sequel to Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen. If you like tactics games, then you'd do well to check this one out. It's one of the more balanced games in the genre. There's a quite a large number of jobs, maps, squads of enemies, and multiple endings to keep you busy for a long while. This version has a number of extras. Link
Tengai Makyō Daiyon no Mokushiroku RPG A foreigner's misguided view of the United States, resulting in an hilarious and bizarre JRPG.

Also on the PSP with widescreen support.

Terra Phantastica SRPG Unique battle system combine with a fairly interesting story, good challenging levels, and a great art style.
The King of Fighters '95 Fighting Unchanged from '94, except for the Team Edit option. Aside from that it's basically KOF '94. Also the hand on the cover looks a little weird. Was also release in Europe.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This is one of two games (the other being some crappy Ultraman game) that requires its unique ROM cart. However, there is a hacked version that works with a standard 4MB RAM cart.

The King of Fighters '96 Fighting Take KOF '95, get rid of the dodge for evasive maneuvers, add a couple of tweaks in gameplay, and you have KOF '96. Now you can perform a Mega Super Special Move instead of a regular one.
The King of Fighters '97 Fighting Probably the third most beloved game in the series (below 2002 and 98). Last game of this storyline, as '98 was a "dream match" game. The Saturn port has way better loading times than the PS1 game, not to mention that it doesn't cut animation frames as much as the Sony version.

Soundtrack is arranged so you don't have the usual blip-blops from the NeoGeo, and there's an Art Gallery with some cool artwork based on the whole series until now.

Great port and amazing game to setup on a weekend barbecue to show how geeky you are for still having an ancient machine like the Saturn.

Thunder Force Gold Pack 1 Shoot 'em up Includes Thunder Force II and III.
Thunder Force Gold Pack 2 Shoot 'em up Includes Thunder Force 4 so who gives a fuck what else is on the disc (Thunder Force AC, aka the arcade version of Thunder Force III).
Thunder Force V Shoot 'em up Easily one of the best shmups ever. Fucking gorgeous 3D and excellent music. Best played on the Saturn as it has less slow down than the PlayStation version.
Tryrush Deppy Platforming A goofy car has a wild trip in America.
Twinkle Star Sprites Shoot 'em up CUTENESS OVERWHELMING~! A cast of whimsical characters compete against one another for a single wish from the great Twinkle Star. Mixes the chaotic shmup environment with competitive puzzle elements for a wonderfully potent concoction. While there is single-player, this game was MADE to be played with a friend!

The most complete of all TSS releases. Includes an exclusive character, voice work for EVERYTHING and a Sailor Moon intro (D'AWWW)!

Vampire Savior: The Lord of Vampire
(Darkstalkers 3)
Fighting The last game in the series.

A very fast-paced fighting game that features a strong focus on momentum and rushes down/mix-ups. The cast is extremely diverse and charismatic with many of the cast having completely different movement types and extremely different normal/special move types. Does not include Marionette in this port, sadly.

Link
Vandal Hearts SRPG An enhanced version of the PlayStation title, and a Badass SRPG that plays more like Shining Force than FFT with rather linear character progression and mission selection. Still fucking good though. Link
Vatlva Vehicular Combat Game Fun overhead car battlin' game by Ancient, who would later go on to make Car Battler Joe for the Gameboy Advance. Pick from a selection of wacky characters who drive an equally diverse bunch of matching vehicles and battle it out in top-down arenas.

Story mode is alright, but it's just 1v1 battles against all the characters in the game followed by three bosses. The REAL fun comes in the games battle mode which supports up to six characters and is a blast with friends.

Soundtrack by Yuzo Koshiro and his longtime collaborator Motohiro Kawashima, which like most of their work together isn't for everybody but it suits the offbeat mood of the game perfectly.

Wachenröder SRPG A heavily story-driven steampunk story with music by none other than Ian McDonald of King Crimson. Although it hasn't been translated, there are full translations of the script on the Internet. A must-play for fans of the SPRG.
Waku Waku 7 Fighting Another perfect arcade / Neo Geo port, this is a whimsical 2D fighting game made by Sunsoft filled with parodies of anime and game archetypes. It's the spiritual successor to Galaxy Fight, and was followed by Astra Superstars - both of which are also on the Saturn.
Willy Wombat Action-Adventure Platformer A top-down 2D/3D platformer by Hudson, with an interesting visual style and character designs by Susumu Matsushita. Voices are in English so it's import-friendly. Link
Wizardry: Llylgamyn Saga RPG A vastly improved remake of the original trilogy of the Wizardry series, the grandfather of hair-pulling RPGs. Has English option for 95% of the text, built-in! Use a guide for some of the text not translated. Same port also available on the PlayStation.
Wolf Fang SS: Kuuga 2001 Shmup / plaformer The terrorists from Vapor Trail are back, but instead of a jet fighter, this time you fight them with a giant robot. It can't fly but the scrolling is still forced, a la Atomic Runner. The graphics are not too impressive, but the gameplay is very intense, and the music rocks. Also on the PlayStation.

X-Men vs. Street Fighter Fighting A perfect arcade port, thanks to the bundled 4MB expansion (an Action Replay 4-in-1 is fine too). The PlayStation version was butchered in comparison, with less animation and no tag team mode.
Yumimi Mix Remix Interactive cartoon A re-release of Yumimi Mix for the Sega CD / Mega CD. While this game looks cute and innocent not long into the story, mysterious monsters begin pouring out of their dimension and into our own. Our main characters must figure out what's going on, how to stop it, and perhaps most importantly, how any of this relates to them. Link
Zanma Chouougi Valhollian SRPG Wuzzat? You want a more harder game than Shining Force? Okay, here ya go. Link
