The Videopac+ G7400 was meant to be the successor to the Videopac G7000 - which non-Europeans know as the Odyssey². In fact it was planned to be released in America as the Odyssey³. It had some technical improvements, and it was backwards-compatible (plus some games would run on the G7000 but display improved backgrounds on the G7400). But soon Philips realized that it would just not be competitive; it was barely enough to match the aging Atari 2600, and a joke next to newer machines like the 5200 or the ColecoVision. And then the crash of '83 happened. So after a very middling European release, the G7400 was quickly discontinued.
