The PICO-8 (not to be confused with Sega's Pico educational console) is a fantasy console by Japanese indie developer Lexaloffle Games.

And what is a fantasy console, you ask? It is a console that never existed in physical form, but only as a game engine / virtual machine. It is meant to replicate the limitations of a 1980s retro console, but was made much more accessible to indie developers. So it has amassed a vast library of neat little titles.

While the PICO-8 software itself is commercial, the vast majority of games are freely playable in a browser-based form, typically on the official site or on itch.io.

NOTE: The Cartridge is just the image.png of the game, literally just download it and load it up to play the game.
