Contribution Guide

From /v/'s Recommended Games
Jump to navigation Jump to search

If you'd like to contribute there are stubs or outdated articles you can help fix up.

[edit | edit source]

Whether a game should be added to the wiki or not just comes down to the question: Do most people on /v/ generally recommend the game? If the answer to that is yes, then go ahead and add it, but if not - and even if you personally think it's a great game - it shouldn't be added.

A good resource for recommended games is charts that get posted on /v/, like:

Pages that need updating

[edit | edit source]

Most of them. The majority of this site was made ~2009-2013 so there's a lot that needs updating, even on the more popular systems. And there's a lot of obscure systems that don't have any games listed at all yet: Systems with no recommended games

Exclusives / Definitive releases

[edit | edit source]

To make finding the best version of a game easier, exclusives and the definitive version/port of a game is marked with a colored background. To do this you just need to add the {{Exclusive}} template to the row of a table, like so:

{| class="wikitable"
!Name
!Description
|-{{Exclusive}} <!-- Put it here on the |- -->
!Game
|Exclusive
|-
!Game 2
|Not Exclusive
|}

Adding images

[edit | edit source]

You can either link to external images (hotlink) or upload them to the wiki.

External images

[edit | edit source]

This method is preferred as it will reduce backend needs and will typically load faster for users.

To post an external image, use the {{External Image}} template.

Using IGDB for images is preferred for their common image size/format and low filesizes. Their resolution support and naming scheme can be found here.

For thumbnails:
  • t_cover_big is best for cover art
  • t_screenshot_med is best for 16:9 screenshots
  • t_720p is best for non-16:9 screenshots.
And for URL t_1080p is best.

Uploading images

[edit | edit source]

You can upload an image up to 4MiB, although please convert/compress/resize them if possible.

The wiki supports these formats: png, gif, jpg, webp, avif, jxl, svg
