The VCS (not to be confused with the [[Atari 2600|2600]], which was originally called VCS as well) is Atari's retro inspired mini PC. It's widely considered by the retro gaming community as a soulless cash grab by a company riding on the coattails of its 1970s brand. Launched in 2021 after crowdfunding delays, the VCS was criticized for its almost $400 price tag ($100 more than a Nintendo Switch), which felt exorbitant compared to more powerful consoles like the Xbox Series S, or even other mini PCs like the Raspberry Pi. You could also run Windows or Linux on it for running custom software but like- why? It was only good for playing its library from the Atari Vault, note the ''was'', because thanks to Atari sunsetting support for the VCS since 2024, the console can't even play roms from its own emulation software. Additional issues like loud fan noise, compatibility problems with modern controllers, and their own controller being incompatible with other micro-USB cables (because they keyed the fucking port lmao), meant that nobody in their right mind would want to buy in on this hunk of shit.
