IBM OS⧸2

OS/2 is an operating system by IBM, intended as the successor to MS-DOS.
This system was initially co-developed by IBM and Microsoft. However, as IBM kept losing grip of the PC market to clone makers, company culture clashes were a constant, and all of a sudden Windows 3.0 became a huge hit, Microsoft decided to quit the partnership to concentrate on their own products. IBM fully took over development, and turned it into a very advanced and reliable system that enticed a number of corporate clients. It was widely used to run ATMs and point of sales terminals. However, it had poor compatibility with hardware outside of IBM's own, and very little support from third-party software developers. Microsoft's rivaling Windows NT soon started to win over the same corporate clients, and then Windows 95 thoroughly clobbered it in the home market.
IBM has long abandoned OS/2, but there are two commercial systems derived from it: eComStation and ArcaOS.
As one would expect from this background, OS/2's library of games is almost nonexistent. To mitigate the dearth of native programs, it came with a virtual machine to run DOS applications (including Windows 3.x). More recently, Odin brought compatibility with Windows 9x and NT programs.
